The Shih Tzu is one of the oldest breeds of dogs. It originated in China, and was recognized by the AKC in 1969. Shih Tzu weigh from 4 to 7 kg, is tall about 27 cm, and has a very long silky hair. In Chinese, Shih Tzu means a lion dog. This breed is identified by the underbite which is required in the breed standard. Their life span is anywhere from 6 to 20 years. Litter size is from 2 to 8. The coat comes in a variety of colors including gold, dark/light brown, white, black and brindle. Teacup Shi Tzu is also know as the Chinese lion dog and Chrysanthemum dog. This breed is now recognized by all major kennel clubs in the world.
